Our flagship product, the Phenometrics Photo Bioreactor (PBR101), is an advanced algae growing system that allows you to quickly and easily determine the best growth factors for your algae strain. From there, you can directly scale up these factors to mass production levels. The original ePBR was developed by Dr. David Kramer, a foremost researcher in algal growth development at Michigan State University.
Since then, Phenometrics has continued and advanced the development of our bioreactors, now featuring the PBR101, with new innovations, a revised, more powerful user interface (Algal Command), and important new accessories that make it easier than ever for you to find better ways of promoting algal growth.The Phenometrics Team:
Michael Chaparian, Ph.D.: As CEO of Phenometrics, Mike brings over 25 years of experience in the life sciences. Most recently, he served as the CEO/CSO of SelectX Pharmaceuticals, a venture-backed company focusing on the discovery of novel therapeutics based on a chemical genetics drug discovery platform. Prior to SelectX, Mike founded OmniScience Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and served as its President and Chief Scientific Officer from 1997 through 2002. Concurrent with his role at OmniScience, Mike was the Director of Biotechnology Development at Arizona State University. Dr. Chaparian holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Wayne State University School of Medicine, completed post doctoral training in the molecular biology of blood clotting disorders at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, and holds a BS degree in chemistry from Michigan Technological University. He has served as a board member and advisor to several biotechnology companies.
Rick Loomis: Vice President of Sales and Marketing (U.S. West of the Mississippi). Mr. Loomis has over 30 years of sales management experience in the biotech industry with specialties in fermentation, instrumentation and drug discovery tools. Mr. Loomis was part of the team which developed the world's first computer-controlled fermentor.
Timothy ("Tim") J. Alavosus, Ph.D.: Vice President of Sales and Marketing (U.S. East of the Mississippi + All International). Dr. Alavosus has over 25 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, and Product Development in the Scientific Instruments and Defense Industries. In his most recent position prior to joining Phenometrics, he was Global Director of Sales and Marketing at L-3 Klein Sonar. In addition, he has held Sales and Marketing positions at Bluefin Robotics, VHG Labs, Bruker Daltonics, Varian Associates, and Baird Atomic. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Brown University, and a Master's of Science Degree in Finance (M.S.F.) in International Business from Brandeis University, where he also completed his B.A. Dr. Alavosus is a prolific author and speaker, and brings extensive international business experience to the Phenometrics team.
David Kramer, Ph.D.: Dr. David Kramer is Chairman of Phenometrics' Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Kramer, a biophysicist, is a Hannah Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University. Dr. Kramer is internationally recognized for his work on photosynthesis and is the author of over 135 scientific papers published in science journals worldwide.
